Carers Queensland backs Reunite Carer Assist
29-Oct-2011Carers Queensland has placed their support behind a new service aimed at the carers of Australia’s most vulnerable.
Unexpected illness, injury, or death of a primary care giver can result in life threatening health and safety issues for those receiving care, an issue that hasn’t been addressed until now.
Reunite Carer Assist acts as an ‘In Case of Emergency’ touch point for the police, allowing for Reunite to arrange vital emergency care for people whose needs would otherwise be unknown.
Carers Queensland Chief Executive Officer Debra Cottrell says Carer Assist provides peace of mind for the one in eight Australian carers who dedicate their lives to the health and wellbeing of a person in need.
“Reunite provides reassurance to carers, and a potentially life saving service to those needing care.”
Reunite issues primary care givers with a card that alerts emergency workers to their role. Upon a call from the police, Reunite then contacts a list of nominated emergency carers, or calls 000 to notify them.
Reunite Director Jenna Williams said Carer Assist eliminates the risk of a person needing care being undiscovered for hours, or even days.
“You can rest assured they [person in care] will not be forgotten about. If none of your preferred emergency carers are able to attend, we will call 000 to go to them immediately,” said Ms Williams.
